Carter Brown Associates was established in 2001; over the last 10 years our expert witness network of Paediatricians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Independent Social Workers have prepared many expert witness reports within both Public and Private Family Law Proceedings. Further to this we are now able to provide expert witnesses in Criminal Law Proceedings.
We pride ourselves on providing expert witness reports of a high standard within realistic timescales and at an hourly rate that is within the guidelines set by the LSC. We will always endeavour to provide expert witnesses to the Family and Criminal Court that are able to provide reports within the three-month Practice Direction which has been adopted in some jurisdictions.
In most cases, a full psychological assessment can usually be prepared within 6-8 weeks from receipt of the Letter of Instruction and assessments of capacity and cognitive functioning can be expedited very quickly in line with your needs. We also recognise that expert witnesses within Criminal Law Proceedings must be able to prepare expert witness reports quickly and in accordance with court prescribed deadlines in order to mitigate delay.

As well as providing expert witness services to courts across the UK, we also provide services to Local Authorities, Companies and Individuals. Our services to Local Authorities include dealing with Stage 2 Complaints and Subject Access Requests. Our expert witnesses are also able to offer assessments outside of a legal arena to organisations such as Sports Governing Bodies; for example, conducting risk assessments on individuals working with children and vulnerable adults. Your first point of contact will be with our Referrals department. All of our Referrals Team have in-depth knowledge of our expert witnesses; they will be able to provide you a choice of expert witnesses, their respective timescales and an estimate of costs for each expert, in a time that best suits your needs.
On confirmation of the case you will be assigned a Case Handler, who will be your single point of contact to the expert witness instructed throughout the life of the case. Your Case Handler will ensure that all relevant documentation reaches the expert witness you have instructed, will track the progress of each case and ensure that deadlines are adhered to. They will also be on hand to answer any queries that you may have regarding the ongoing case.
Whilst time management such as the arrangement of appointments is left to each individual expert witness, your Case Handler will check each case is on schedule. When the report is completed, it will be passed through to our Quality Assurance Team. Once the report has undergone a series of Quality Assurance checks, it is subsequently dispatched to the lead solicitor for distribution to all parties, as appropriate. Our Accounts Department then deals with invoicing and all other financial matters.
