Family Therapists
I have approximately 15 years experience of providing psychotherapy and counselling to young people and adults both individually and in groups. My early work was at Leicester Counselling Centre and in private practice providing generic therapy services to adults on an individual basis. My clients were self referred, by GPs and Psychiatrists.
For four years I worked in a Therapeutic Community providing both group and individual psychotherapy, to young adults experiencing severe mental health issues, which frequently would be diagnosed as personality disordered. A holistic approach was employed involving participation in multi-disciplinary working, the provision of pastoral care, and helping individuals to develop the necessary skills for independent living.
Subsequently I worked in a child care organisation which works therapeutically with young people who present with very challenging behaviours, and experience high levels of distress and disturbance. Invariably they each carry a raft of complex problems and needs, consequent of upbringings characterised by neglect and abuse. I provided therapy on an individual basis, along with consultancy and training to those involved in providing front line care. The training I delivered included Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory, Counselling Skills and working with Young People. I also attended team meetings for the young people on my caseload. Also produced reports for, and attended ‘Looked after Children’ (LAC) reviews.
