Andrew has worked in the field of child care since 1993 and specialises in the impact of substance misuse on parenting.
Families that he has worked with have had parenting issues resulting in the misuse of drugs such as heroin, crack cocaine and alcohol. Andrew has also been involved in the development of facilitation of training on basic drugs awareness. He has completed over 200 reports for the family courts. Andrew is located in Bradford.

Balwinder currently works as a CAFCASS Children’s Guardian and has over 19 years’ experience working as a Social Worker. He has extensive experience of working with children and families from minority backgrounds, including new arrivals and indigenous families.
His assessments have included issues such as risk, domestic violence, drug and alcohol misuse, kinship assessments, form ‘F’ assessments and inter-country adoption. Balwinder can speak Punjabi and has knowledge of the Sikh, Hindu and Muslim faiths and South African culture. He is located in Wolverhampton.

Deb qualified as a social worker in 1989 and has experience in a variety of assessments and therapeutic approaches. Her expertise covers attachment, adoption and fostering, neglect and trauma in childhood and mental health in children.
The main areas of Deb’s therapeutic work are in attachment and systemic based assessment and intervention; including delivering training to specialist mental health teams, training for carers (adoptive, foster and residential) and direct reparative work with children and families where there has been neglect and abuse.
Deb has also undertaken training in sibling sexual offending, play therapy and psychodynamic theories and concepts. She is located in Sheffield.

Diana is a Social Worker based in Sheffield. She is formerly a State Registered Nurse; this early experience of working with people in a vulnerable situation and often in distress in an environment where they feel they have no control was invaluable when she moved into the arena of Social Care.
Since 1994, Diana has worked in Social Services in a range of Social Work roles, from intervention, assessment and child protection.
Latterly, Diana has worked as a Team Manager in the newly redesigned Children’s Hospital Teams, which now covers both the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and the Maternity Department of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Hayley is a qualified and General Social Care Council registered Social Worker with over 15 years experience of working in children and families social work. Within this time, she has gained extensive knowledge and experience of all aspects of statutory children and families social work, including:
Referral and assessment; complex child protection; care proceedings in the Family Proceedings, County and High Courts; Children Looked After; Secure Accommodation; Adoption and permanency; children with disabilities.
She is experienced in completing complex risk assessments of parents and carers with mental health issues; learning difficulties; physical illness/disability; experiencing domestic violence and alcohol/drug misuse. I am also experienced in undertaking assessments of a parent’s capacity to change.
Hayley has undertaken direct work with children who have experienced abuse and have substantial experience of working with large sibling groups who, due to their differing needs and ages, have required different care plans. She has a particular interest in the trilogy of risk factors: domestic violence, mental illness and substance misuse. Hayley is also trained to use the Sue McGaw Parenting Assessment Manual (PAM).

Having qualified in 1978, Heather has over 30 years’ experience as a social worker, and has worked as an Independent Social Worker since 2006. Heather has extensive experience in all aspects of assessment work including Child Protection Investigations, assessment under Mental Health Act and of children, families and carers. As part of her work for Carter Brown Associates, Heather has undertaken comprehensive parenting and kinship assessments. She also has experience of carrying out parenting assessments within parent /child placements with foster carers.
Heather’s work has also focused on resolving family conflict and encompassed work with juvenile offenders, older persons in crisis and people with learning or physical disabilities and their carers. Heather is based in Nottinghamshire and willing to travel within the UK.

Heather is able to cover a wealth of issues within her assessment reports including; attachment, family dynamics, substance misuse, domestic violence, trauma, abuse and neglect. She is experienced in carry out assessments of children, young people and families. Heather is also able to prepare Special Guardianship Assessment reports and familiar with issues surrounding fostering and adoption.
Heather’s work as a family court advisor for CAFCASS has given her a good understanding of both public and private family law proceedings. Heather is based in South Derbyshire.

Iain is an experienced Children and Families Social Work practitioner and Cafcass Family Court Advisor. He is based in the North East and is willing to travel for work.
He has a wide range of experience in both public and private law work including, emergency protection orders, and care and supervision order applications, specific issue reports, prohibited steps, residence and contact applications. Iain has extensive experience of working as a Children’s Guardian in Rule 9.5 cases; the most complex of private law proceedings.
Iain has often used his assessment skills and experience in Child Protection, including assessing risk to children exposed to domestic violence, neglect, mental health issues, learning difficulties, and alcohol and substance misuse.
James K

James has 36 years’ experience of teaching and court-based social work. Issues such as drugs and alcohol and their impact on parenting, abuse and neglect, domestic violence, adoption, relationship difficulties, child protection, offending behaviour and high risk, parenting and kinship, are covered in his assessments. As a self-employed Guardian ad litem and Children’s Guardian, he has taken a particular interest in infants with neo-natal abstinence syndrome (drug withdrawing babies) and in the assessment of serious NAI to and neglect of young children in dangerous families.
James is approved by the Home Office (Office for Criminal Justice Reform) to conduct interviews with child witnesses in criminal proceedings and has travelled throughout the UK, USA, Jersey and Ireland to conduct assessments. His work has also included ISW family assessments for Immigration Appeals Tribunals. James is based in Yorkshire.

Jane has extensive experience of working with children and their families in a variety of circumstances. This has involved planning, assessing and evaluating risk to ascertain what is in the child’s best interests and making recommendations to court proceedings. This has included situations where there is parental substance misuse, emotional abuse, neglect, domestic violence and children who have experienced physical harm and sexual abuse. Jane has prepared more than 130 reports for the family court.
In addition to this, Jane has been involved in assessing families where children have had serious disabilities, both physical and learning disabilities. Her experience is enhanced by the fact that her own son is registered disabled because of a significant learning disability. Jane is located in Nottinghamshire.

With over 10 years’ experience, Jean has worked within Local Authorities since 1997 and during that time has been involved in several projects one of which was to starting up an Asian Women’s Group for single and isolated women who were in some cases stigmatised by their own community because of their status.
Located in Huddersfield, Jean is able to carry out assessments covering child protection issues, adoption and fostering, cultural diversity, trauma, abuse and neglect.

Jo is an Independent Social Worker based in South Nottinghamshire. She previously worked within the context of the Local Authority for over ten years. She began undertaking independent work in January 2011.
Jo has been involved with cases pertaining to a wide range of social work issues and has worked in various teams including Duty, Child In Need and Permanence Teams. She gained a wide variety of experience during this period including Initial Assessments, Core Assessments, writing Court reports for complex Court proceedings and giving verbal evidence in Court, writing Child Protection reports and attending Child Protection meetings, writing Looked After Children reports and attending Looked After Children reviews.
She also has considerable experience within Child Protection Conferences and has acted as the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) and chairing strategy meetings relevant to these panels.
