Contact Centre
Supervised Contact
The service will provide appropriately qualified and trained staff to individually supervise the contact. The facility will be appropriate for the following types of cases:
- When there have been allegations of domestic violence.
- When there have been allegations of abuse against a child.
- Where there are concerns about the impact of contact upon the emotional welfare of the child.
- Where there are concerns about a parent’s ability to meet the needs of a child during contact.
- When it is felt that it would be beneficial to the non resident parent to have the support of a supervisor during contact.
- When recorded objective observations of contact would be helpful to the Court's decision making process.
Christine Brown who manages the Contact Centre has many years of experience in family law and child protection. Together with her team of specialist workers, she aims to offer a confidential service in a warm and comfortable environment which will help to encourage the development and enjoyment of children who have been separated from parents in both public and private law disputes. In addition to acting in a purely observation or supervisory role we aim, where appropriate to seek to enhance parenting skills and the quality of family relationships.
Parenting Information Programme for Separating Parents
This is a prescribed course specifically designed for separating parents who are ordered by the Court to attend. It is a programme designed to help parents understand the impact of ongoing parental conflict on their children and to provide help and advice about how to reduce it.
This type of contact activity programme will be suitable
• Where parents have lost sight of their children’s needs due to ongoing conflict
• Where ongoing conflict has affected the adult’s ability to communicate
• Where parents are caught up and lost in their own feelings and reactions to their separation and are unable to move beyond this
The course is designed to be delivered in modules over a four hour period. This would normally be 2x2hr sessions for both parties. They would not attend together and the programme is delivered as a group activity although can also be delivered individually if appropriate.
There is no assessment of parties’ responses or reporting back to the Court unless the parties fail to attend.
Parents can be referred once a Contact Activity Order has been made and courses are held on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings. The next group starts on Monday 8th March 2010.
